Interview With Sercan Tunalı; Attracting Attention With Shares On Social Media

Sercan Tunalı is known as The Cloud Collector by most people on social media. Combining the agenda and politics with his work, Tunalı's posts have been highly appreciated recently. We had a small talk with Sercan Tunalı, who was also among the Anima School trainers, on social media and visual arts.

Could you tell us a little about yourself, who is Sercan Tunalı?

After Fine Arts High School Painting Department, I entered Anadolu University Cartoon Animation Department. After I finished my school, I went to Australia both to study and to take advantage of job opportunities. After returning to Turkey, I worked as an animation and art director in the advertising industry for many years. I lived and studied in New York and Paris. I had the opportunity to work with many brands and companies abroad. I continue to work from home as most people do right now.

When did you first realize your interest in drawing?

After a painting competition I won in primary school, I became more interested.

Which of the works you have done so far do you like the most, why?

I can't say one in particular, but there are paintings that I don't put up for sale in my exhibitions and that I want to keep in my own collection. I love the pictures I make based on my ideas, which I usually think are beautiful.

Your illustrations on Instagram have created a huge recognition for you. What do you think is the reason for this?

I think sincerity is very important. I also try to make unique works as much as possible. After a while, your drawings don't need a signature. The topics I have chosen are inspired by the modern life that everyone thinks and lives. Somehow we share the same ideas.

You've done great things in animation. Does it bother you to be known for your illustrations, not animation, on social media?

No, it doesn't bother me at all. I also share my animations from time to time. I don't care what I'm known for, but how I'm known, whether it's positive or negative.

Do you think you create inspiration on social media?

I come across some works from time to time, and I think the number of illustrators who work close to the same discipline is increasing. Everyone has their own beautiful world. You multiply.

Your political posts on social media attract a lot of attention. What do you think about the combination of drawing and animation with politics?

I think it's a very good thing because politics is such a harsh field and you can soften the corners by drawing and bring it to a point where it can be negotiated. It's like doing acrobats on a very thin rope. It's hard and risky. But once you get a good idea, it's pretty easy to make a big impact.

Which programs do you prefer in your studies?

Paper, pencil and paints while drawing. I use Photoshop and After Effects while animating.

Is there an artist you inspire?

I am very influenced by artists such as Picasso, Miro, Escher.

What advice do you have for those who want to improve themselves in the field of animation and drawing?

You have to love a lot. It should be a part of your life. You need to spend hours on a subject you want to improve. In order to be successful, it is necessary to work hard on a planned basis, I do not think there is any other method.
